Sales Associate:

Do you love fashion and have a background in sales? If so, we may have a position for you. We are a growing, family owned and operated, optometry practice in Sydney, Nova Scotia. We are looking for help on the sales side of our clinic. The ideal candidate would be a team player with excellent communication skills who is familiar with inventory management and sales targets. An attention to detail, record keeping, superb customer service skills, and an ability to do math are also required. Optical industry experience would be considered an asset. Salary dependent on sales and optical experience.

Duties Include:

  • Greet patients in a friendly and professional manner while building rapport
  • Assist patients with frame selection, styling, fitting, lens selection and measurements
  • Enter lab orders and accurate patient information as well as supply insurance forms and receipts
  • Verify prescription eyeglasses and notify patients when eyewear is ready
  • Dispense, adjust and repair eyewear
  • Schedule follow up appointments as needed
  • Instruct patients on proper eyewear use and care of new eyeglass lenses
  • Troubleshoot and problem solve eyewear concerns and issues to ensure patient satisfaction
  • Maintain and order dispensary supplies as required
  • Liaise and coordinate with frame suppliers and develop an inventory management system
  • Monitor job status from optical labs and ensure accuracy and quality
  • Participate in personal and team development training and initiatives including staff meetings, continuing education and conferences
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, suppliers and the general public
  • Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adhere to relevant health and safety procedures

Administrative Assistant (Front Desk)

We are a busy optometry office looking to expand our office hours and thus have a permanent, full time, position available. The ideal candidate has experience working in an office environment. This person would be outgoing, enjoy working with the public, and have excellent computer and communication skills. We’re looking for a team player, with a high attention to detail, who can multitask in a fast pace environment. Starting salary of $12.50/hour for 34-40 hours/week.

Duties would include:

  • Greet in office patients immediately in a courteous and friendly demeanour while building rapport with patients
  • Answer a high volume of calls and take accurate information from calls received (i.e.: book appointments) where required and transfer information or calls with speed and efficiency
  • Call patients to book and confirm appointments
  • Collect required health and insurance information prior to eye exams
  • Provide information and direction to patients about their eye health and options
  • Update and maintain electronic records
  • Bill third party insurances and keep appropriate/required records
  • Check patients in and out of appointments and take payments for services and products
  • Perform routine clerical tasks; filing, faxing, tidying, etc.
  • Answer and maintain website and email inquiries
  • Order and maintain office supplies as needed
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, suppliers and the general public

Optometrist’s Assistant

Dr. MacInnis is looking for an assistant to help him provide excellent and punctual eye care to his patients. He’s looking for someone who enjoys working with the public, helping people, and has a passion for learning (and ideally an interest in learning more about eyes). This person must have an excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, an ability to multitask in a fast pace environment. Strong typing skills, comfort with technology, and a sense of humour would all be considered an asset. Starting salary of $12.50/hour, to increase as training milestones are met, with a 34-40 hour work week. Some evenings and Saturday shifts will be required but the majority of the hours would fall between 8 am to 5 pm Monday-Friday.

Duties would include:

  • Greet patients in a friendly and welcoming manner while building rapport
  • Administer eye drops and record detailed information on patient history
  • Prepare examination rooms including sterilization and calibration of instruments – turn on all computers and set to current patient information
  • Provide direction and information as required to patients and collect required health information prior to eye exam
  • Perform diagnostic testing and other pre-exam testing as required
  • Order and maintain pre-test supplies as needed
  • Update electronic records, file patient files and perform other routine clerical tasks
  • Maintain efficient patient flow through pre-screen area and exam rooms ensuring patients and reception are informed of delays – hand off patients to other departments
  • Maintain patient records, third party billing and financial records and database as assigned
  • Assist patients in contact lens training, trials, ordering and follow up visits
  • Participate in personal and team development training and initiatives including staff meetings, continuing education and conferences
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, leadership team, suppliers and the general public
  • Maintain regular consistent and professional attendance, punctuality, personal appearance, and adhere to relevant health and safety procedures
